A whale-watching excursion in Mirissa typically lasts between 3 to 5 hours, with the average being around 4 hours. Our excursions begin at 7:00 am from the Mirissa harbor. You need to be present between 6:00 to 6:30 am. We provide morning tea prior to departure, along with a breakfast package and snacks throughout the tour. The boat has a washroom that includes a toilet.
The optimal period for whale watching in Mirissa is between November and April. The sea is tranquil, and whales travel from the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern Hemisphere. The period from May to October is the low season: the sea is tumultuous, and it’s not worth visiting. The likelihood of seeing whales is quite minimal, while the likelihood of experiencing seasickness is significantly high. Therefore, kindly refrain from sending us reservations for the off-season.
Remember that you’ll encounter wildlife, so seeing whales isn’t guaranteed. Blue whales are usually observed. Sperm whales, fin whales, Bryde’s whales, short-finned whales, dolphins, and occasionally killer whales and whale sharks can also be observed. Occasionally, we encounter turtles and flying fishes too.
